Sensory System and Perception Cuayollotl

In spite of the numerous works that try to figure out how our mind acquires environmental information and makes an object representation, a complete and plausible model for artificial creatures has not been achieved.

This topic is too complex since what we can get and measure from an environment in computational systems are physical magnitudes, however, the brain has the ability to go further and manages to give meaning to these magnitudes, to create a useful representation for the task developed by the individual in a given moment.

The following questions arise from the information acquisition hability performed by the brain:

  • What kind of information is the brain able to acquire from the environment?
  • How is the information acquired from the environment processed?
  • How does the brain interpret and give meaning to information acquired from the environment?
  • What data structure does the brain use to represent information?
  • If the brain works in parallel, how do you manage to maintain a scene congruent to be used by the various cognitive functions?
  • How is the different types of sensory information integrated?

Whithin our proposal, two cognitive functions work together to generate internal representations of objects: Sensory System and Perception.

Sensory Processing Systems

Are the systems related to the acquisition of information from different modalities, like vision, touch and audition. Those systems are in charge of the internal activations and transformations caused by stimuli features.

Perception

Interpretation and recognition.
